Gian IV: Recent History

[Ancient History] [Maps] [Prophecies] [Recent History]

Lucifer was ever restless in his imprisonment, and really it was only a matter of time before he made a concerted, possibly even successful, attempt to get out.

The world was not unaware of his movements, though, and there were small pockets of resistance forming, expecting the worst. The gods re-taught themselves that which they had made themselves forget, and took up new positions on the matter. The 25 were no more. But it was of little matter since the Seals were secure and a few powerless followers causing trouble was easy enough to combat. The first line of defence lay in the hands of an ancient elf called Bel'tar Than'cor, Keeper of the Chronicles and Watcher of the 25. He watched the world from his scrying ball and guided individuals in his wisdom, putting down pockets of followers for the forgotten faiths - educating the people but keeping in the background.

It seems strange then, that the first Seal to break should have nothing to do with any of the gods at all. A colony ship, losing control near the Gian star, jettisoned its colonisation module towards the verdant planet fourth from the star... this module seared through the atmosphere and collided with a mountain range in Dwan-dur. This caused massive earthquakes, killing Dwarves, Duergar, Drow and other underground creatures alike. And breaking the Seal apart.

The breaking of the Seal started to rouse the sleepers, but only the lightest sleepers awoke: the Eleshai - the offspring of unwilling liaisons between Eleurians and Ashabae. Psionics, stifled for so long by the same magic that kept the Eleurians asleep, began to blossom within people's minds again. Destiny began to take control.

An Ashaba daemon slipped through the Seal and into the world for the first time in ten thousand years, and under instructions of her master, began ti search for something... Bel'tar left the protection of his Seal after some adventurers visited him. He returned to the land of Amir'Shaan where he continued to help in the fight against Lucifer's forces. It wasn't long, though, before the second seal was broken by Inisrya, in spite of the best efforts of a group of adventurers. The daemon was killed, although her half-human daughter survived, and although there was a great vigilance on the part of Bel'tar and co, the third Seal was broken 20 years later.

In these 20 years, the forces of Lucifer had not been idle, however, and the great hero Gethirah has returned, as prophesied, taking on the guise and role of the Lanixan Inquisitor General. Fortunately, Gethirah's nemesis, The'tan'i, has also returned, although his guise is unknown, for not even the gods themselves can track the two heroes. They are outside of destiny.

With the third Seal broken, the sleepers are finally rousing and it is surely only a matter of time before Lucifer breaks the final Seal and is free...
